Guinness Cheese Sauce

Pretzels and cheese sauce sounded really good for this rainy day so I wrote down the recipe to share! These pretzels are from Kitchen Sink Food & Drink where Abby works.

Guinness Cheese Sauce:                                                  Yields: 1 pt.

  • 2 Tbsp Butter
  • 2 Tbsp Flour
  • 1/2 tsp Garlic Powder
  • 1/2 C Guinness®
  • 1 C Milk
  • 1/2 C Heavy Cream
  • 2 C Cheddar Cheese (Grated)
  • 1/2 tsp Salt

In a small sauce pot melt the butter on medium heat. Add in the flour and whisk to make your roux. Cook roux for around 3 minutes. While whisking add in Guinness® and garlic powder. Sauce will begin to get thick. Add in your milk and cream, continue to whisk until smooth. Bring sauce to a boil to activate roux and thicken the sauce. Cook sauce for about 3-4 minutes while stirring. Remove from heat and slowly add in cheese, stirring consistently until sauce is silky smooth. Season with salt and enjoy with some soft pretzels or chips!
